The scene.
*
Two people talking
back and forth
on random subjects
the conversation flowing,
sitting outside at a terrace,
a newspaper on the table plus
Walden by Henry David Thoreau
and Sosha by Isaac Bashevis Singer,
sipping drinks, nibbling snack food
and talking softly, wearily....
*
tuning in on the conversation....
*
'....yes I know their are millions
and millions of good people
but how do we get rid of these
billions and billions of others....'
*
the scene's disturbed
*
a car with bass booms spoiling
the entire street and terrace
all must hear, cannot avoid to hear
*
fading out, the car drives past,
*
a moment later, tuning in again
*
'....what heaven maybe is,
well for me it would be,
is that one's not confronted
with the private hell
such people create
and wish to live in
and impose on others
in their surroundings....'
*
minutes later, another topic
*
'....the thing is, he thinks
he's trendy and intellectual
yet he's so middle-class
and when that well-known
TV-host flirted with his wife
standing next to them in the café
he actually told me proudly
about it as if it made him
bigger, more succesful..mutt..
..pitiful (sound of a yawn)....'
*
fading out, and in, to the next part
*
'....o boy, yes, our changing climate
and no improvement to expect..
..for all these petty bourgeois
that keep on going in circles
pretending to care until the next
holiday comes along and then
buying the cheapest flight to
their holiday home in Cyprus
or to trendy Dubai or Milan
for some new shoes or a suit..
.. and no politician with the
spine to put a stop to it all....'
*
some minutes later
*
'....there was once a time when
holiday meant to be free of work
well, for Nana's, you know these
poor house slaves, that still is true
..one day a year.. nowadays all
blue collar and middle-class twits
have been brainwashed that one
has to travel during holidays
to broaden the mind..
(gives a snort)..,
what mind I ask you, what mind....'
*
the two smile way-worn
lift their glasses
toasting wordlessly,
sipping their drink, idly
picking up their books
to read some more....
*
end of episode one
NB.
The conversation's fictional, based on reality, it can only be placed in current days....
