..as he faced that barrier
they had unwittingly built
by their shared traditions
all knowing exactly place
and time as if they owned
everything and anything..
that he was not born into
for he was bred - outside
any and ev'ry convention
his heritage - so different
his self contained way of
movin' through the world
so unimpressed by theirs
that they begrudged him
his solitary stand on the
edge of time and space
where none could walk
but these that are able
to live free and tranquil
in self-imposed solitude
that commonalty holds
as utterly abrasive out
of fear and reverence..

Inspired by Hassan's poetic remarks: “… one can feel more alone in the company of people than in solitude…and all the time I had never felt more alone, like oil in water, I just could not dissolve into the crowd or share their passion, even when I tried, their backs felt like walls that I couldn’t possibly climb, or claw through, or dig under. It was the loneliest I’ve ever felt....”; as he described what I had foretold would happen....
