Who knows what it is
What
makes a good poet great
You and I
know the answer, don’t we,
They don’t
It’s this one
human being
Who knows
what it is
To love passionately,
tenderly, unconditionally
Who knows
what it is
To hurt to
feel pain to the core
Who knows
what it is
To hate so
intense it suffocates
Who knows
what it is
To forgive
and how the world should be
Who knows
what it is
When God’s
tears cleanse your soul
Who knows
what it is
To breathe
the sigh of genuine creation
Who knows
what it is
To be a
tree, a floret, a dragonfly, a simian or a dolphin
Who knows
what it is
To drown in boundless skies and to swallow infinite lakes
Who knows
what it is
To be
limited, unrestrained and timeless all at once
Who knows
what it is
What makes
a great poet divine
You and I
know the answer, don’t we,
They don’t
It’s this
one human being
