When you are nothing but a memory lapse

You looked in the mirror
and what did you see
Nothing, nothing at all
not even poor little you

But what made it blur
why couldn't you be
the person you were
once honest even modest

How did ego and society
force this blandness on you
but as you tried to touch
and destroy the mirror glass

It wasn't there, it never was
you just saw yourself in me
and what I do not like
I just fail to remember
